Planning is well
under way for IYF 2009. This IYF will
be held at four different sites: Bangkok, Thailand; Santa Barbara, Honduras;
Independence, Missouri; and Malawi, Africa.
The theme for 2009, "One," will provide opportunity to explore
various dimensions of Christ's vision of the peaceable kingdom of God on earth
as outlined in Section 163 of the Doctrine and Covenants. The International
Youth Forum is scheduled for 2009 and once again, youth will travel to
locations throughout the world for this experience. Michigan Youth will travel
to Malawi, Africa; Africa is our “sister” field. Our Mission Center may select two youth to join the experience. Cost for the trip which will be held June
24-June 30th (estimated dates), will cost each youth $5,000. Due to rising transportation expenses, this
may increase somewhat. First payment for transportation costs are due January
1st followed by a final payment by April 1st.
Other expenses not included in this figure are vaccinations and
transportation costs to the airport (Detroit). Youth who would like to be
considered for the trip should contact Leslie Garn at the Mission Center office
and leave your name and contact information. The formal application process
will be posted to the website at a later date. A selection committee will be
formed to interview candidates and choose two youth from the applicants. More
spaces may open up if other mission centers do not fill their slots, so an
alternate list will be created. Participants will be selected by October
26,2008. kpwilson@cofchrist.org
